Louis E Kemp

Louis E. Kemp, 88, a lifelong resident of Normalville, passed away peacefully Monday, May 20, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 30, 1935, in Normalville. He was the son of the late H. Glenn and E. Ruth “Dolly” Sherbondy Kemp. Louis was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1952. He retired, after 45 years, from Anchor Hocking where he worked as a tool and die maker. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963. Louis loved the Lord and devoted his life to serving Him. He was a lifelong member of the Normalville U.M. Church where he served as the church pianist for 77 years. Louis enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved reading, music, telling stories, and making sure everyone was well-fed. He also loved woodworking. Over the years, along with his wife, he crafted many special gifts for his family and friends. Besides his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he loved his family more than anything. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 66 years (whom he married on July 13, 1957) Joan Brooks Kemp; his children Shelly Day and husband Eddie of Lafayette, Indiana; Mark Kemp and wife Erin of Normalville; and Kelly Whetsel and husband Ken of Berryville, Virginia. He had eight grandchildren: Megan McWilliams and husband Cam, Rebekah Whisler and husband Trae, Blaine Day and wife Courtney all of Lafayette, Indiana; Gabriel, Logan, and Teran Kemp of Normalville; and Laurel and Eva Whetsel of Berryville, Virginia. He had five great-grandchildren: Samantha, Charlie, Blakely, Colter, and Kaia. He is also survived by his brother, Sam Kemp and wife Donna of Normalville and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Louis was predeceased by his sister, Roxie A. Beucher. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Mark C. Brooks Funeral Home Inc., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Rd., Melcroft (724-455-2310), where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mark Sholtis officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Normalville Church, 3270 Springfield Pike, Normalville, PA 15469, in memory of Louis Kemp.
