John W. Anderson

John W. Anderson, age 79, of Melcroft, passed away on September 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 12, 1945 in Melcroft, the son of James and Frances (Smith) Anderson. He attended Connellsville High School and was employed by Babcock Lumber Company as a Fork Lift Operator for 28 years.John was a member of Davistown U.M. Church for over 50 years and served as a Trustee for many of those years. John enjoyed working with wood. Over the years he made beautiful pieces of furniture such as gun cabinets, book cases, tables and chairs, including rocking chairs and cradles for his grandchildren. He loved fishing and hunting, whether it be for wild game, mushrooms or ginseng, or anything that would allow him to spend time in the woods. He was a very loving and giving person and never too busy to help a friend. He loved his family and always made sure they knew it. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon (Kalp) Anderson, a son John B. Anderson and wife Lisa of Melcroft, a daughter Lori Stoner and husband Alfred of Everson, four grandchildren Kasey (Johnny) Pierce of Donegal, Marissa (George) Cafasso of White, Cadie Stoner and Logan Stoner both of Everson, three great grandchildren Kensley, Madilynn, and Rosalie, a sister Mary and husband Lloyd Hostetler of Melcroft, a brother Jack Anderson and wife Dorothy of Melcroft, a sister-in-law Betty Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, and several nieces and nephews, including Kevin Anderson of Melcroft with whom he was especially close. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by a brother James Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, and sisters Ruby Sebek of Greensburg, Wilda Chearney of Acme, Nancy Hawkins of Crownsville, Maryland, and an infant sister Helen. Family and friends our invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held Saturday September 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM, in the County Line Church of the Brethren, 1411 County Line Rd., Champion, PA 15622, with Pastor Leona Logan officiating. A reception/luncheon will follow immediately after the Memorial Service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in memory of John W. Anderson.
